Gill Dominates for First Career Brewerton Big Block Triumph

By Hannah Doll:

BREWERTON, NY (June 29, 2024)- Friday evening, the atmosphere at Brewerton Speedway was electric as 115 cars filled the pit area for a night of adrenaline-pumping action presented by Microgame Play & Trade. Plessis, New York driver Jackson Gill raced to a convincing win in the 35-lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified feature event, leading 33 of the 35 laps for his first career Brewerton big block win.

Other winners from Microgame Play & Trade Night included Cody Manitta (Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), Chris Bonoffski (Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinders), Joe Garafolo (AmeriCU Mod Lites) and Samuel Hubbard (Hustle the Highway 600cc Modified Series).

Gill and Jim Witko Jr. brought the Tracey Road Modified field to the Comfort Windows Firing Point, with Witko Jr. leading the way over Gill, Chris Mackey, and Tyler Trump.

The first and only Milton Cat Caution of the night would fly on lap 2 for a car slow in turns three and four which bunched the field.

On the restart, Gill would shoot out to the race lead. Mackey would work his way on the high side, getting around Hill for second, with Trump moving into third and quickly, then charging past Mackey on lap 11.

As Gill continued to drive away, the battle for second and third only heated up as Hill would regain the final podium position on lap 15, now chasing down Trump for second. Hill then went on to pick off Trump on lap 22.

With laps winding down, 13th starting Tim Sears Jr. came on strong. He used the high side on lap 26 to power around Trump for third. Then followed it up with another flawless pass of Hill on lap 33 for second.

With clear track throughout, Gill would cruise to an over two-second lead and close the deal for the win. Point leader Sears Jr crossed the line in second, with Max Hill rounding out the podium positions. Last week's winner, Chris Hile, and sixth starter, Matt Caprara, completed the top 5.

Cody Manitta picked up his first Brewerton win of the season. Coming from the 7th starting spot, the Cato local would battle his way through the pack, crossing ahead of second-place Owen Bird. Hunter Hollenbeck would complete the podium, with Tony Finch II and Austin Germinio rounding out the top 5.

Current points leader Chris Bonoffski clinched another win in the Mirabito 4-Cylinder Super Stock division. Justin Pope, Mike Ferris, Donny Rider Jr., and Corey Valade complete the top 5.

Joseph Garafolo picked up the AmeriCU Mod Lite feature with a dramatic final turn pass of Justin Williams for the win. Mike Mullen, Roger Olschewske Jr, and Zack Babcock rounded out the top 5. It was the second straight week the AmeriCU Mod Lite Feature winner has been determined by a last-turn, last-lap pass.

Samuel Hubbard took home the win and a $1000 payday for the Hustle the Highway 600cc Modified series. Charles Lohmeyer would follow in second, with Doug Windhausen, Justin LaDue, and Owen Moscow crossing to round out the top 5.

With rain moving into the area, the show was expedited with victory lane presentations limited to just Hubbard and Garafolo. Presentations for Gill, Manitta and Bonoffski will be held next Friday.
