Fan Favorite Pat Ward Drives Straight To Brewerton Speedway Victory Lane; Still No Repeat Modified Winners in 2019 At The Speedway

BREWERTON, NY – There is no doubt that Pat Ward from Genoa, NY is one the most popular drivers at the Brewerton Speedway, for that matter anywhere he races behind the wheel of his Gypsum Express, Gypsum Wholesalers, Stadium International Trucks, LJL Kevlar Racing Engines, No. 42p, Bicknell.

Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway Pat Ward would take the lead on lap 28 in the 35-lap feature and from there would outrun teammate Larry Wight and pull into victory lane with loud cheers from the crowd.

A relieved and happy Pat Ward related after his win that he and his team really needed that one after a rough couple races earlier in the week when mechanical gremlins reared their ugly head. He was quick to credit his crew and entire LJL& Gypsum Racing team for never giving up.

Tim Harris would jump out to the early lead in the 35-lap Modified feature and hold the top spot until Ron Davis III carried momentum off the high groove and into the lead on lap 4.

On lap 10 Davis was hooked up and flying, opening a full straightaway lead leaving Roy Bresnahan, Pat Ward, Jimmy Phelps and Jim Witko to battle it out for second on back.

With 15 laps complete Davis was in another zip code out front by over 4 seconds still cruising on the high side of speedway. Ward and Bresnahan raced side-by-side for second and third with Phelps and Larry Wight who started deep in the field showing in the top five.

At the halfway point Davis was on rails still running the topside a straightaway ahead of Ward. Wight, Bresnahan and Phelps raced close for third through fifth.

With 10 laps remaining Davis was starting to see his lead shrink with Ward and Wight rapidly closing in on the leader.

After a quick yellow on lap 26, the whole complexion of the race would change as Ward would blast into the lead on lap 28 with his teammate Wight racing into second on lap 30.

Over the final laps Pat Ward wasn’t going to be denied as he was first under the checkers in front of the cheering crowd. Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker and Ron Davis III finished second through fifth.

Another strong field of DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman signed into the pits. With a field of 40 cars, two 25-lap features were run.

In the first feature Colby Herzog would lead the opening lap with Billy Clark taking over the lead one lap later.

With 5 laps complete Clark held around a five-car length advantage over Herzog while behind the top-two, Torrey Stoughtenger, Stephen Denton and Mark Yorker slugged it out in the top-five.

Clark would open a full straightaway lead by lap 10 ahead of Herzog, Denton, Yorker and Stoughtenger.

With 10 laps remaining Clark was still out front with a big lead with Herzog, Denton and defending track champion Kevin Root, who started 15th, and Yorker racing in the top-five.

Root would move into second with 6 laps left and set his sights on Clark, but over the final laps there was no denying Billy Clark Jr. as he would grab his first Brewerton win since 2016. Kevin Root, Colby Herzog, Stephen Denton and Mark Yorker finished second through fifth.

The second 25-lap feature Willy Decker Jr. Would jump into the lead at the drop of the green leaving the rest of the field behind him to battle it out two and three wide.

With 5 laps complete Decker held a slim lead while JJ Courcy, Zach Sobotka, Corey Barker and Bob Henry Jr. slugged it out for top-five positions.

On lap 10 Sobotka and Barker raced side by side for second that allowed Decker to bolt out to a full straightaway lead.

Decker still led with 10 laps remaining but was going to have a battle for the lead as Barker was now within striking distance. Sobotka, Henry and Alan Fink were in a race of their own in the top-five.

After hounding Decker, Barker saw the opening he needed to drive under Decker and by him to be scored the new leader on lap 18.

Over the final laps there was no stopping Corey Barker as he picked up the win. Willy Decker Jr., Zach Sobotka , Alan Fink and Chris Cunningham finished second through fifth.

The 20-lap U.S Air Force Mod lites feature was a battle to the finish.

Tom Mackey would lead the opening laps until a yellow on lap 8 that would see Casey Sykes drive under and by Mackey on the restart to be scored the new leader.

Once in the lead, until the checkers, Sykes would survive cautions and late race pressure from Zack Babcock for his second win in a row. Tom Mackey, Mike Mullen and Joe Garafolo finished third through fifth.

Quinn Wallis would lead the opening laps of the Fleet Repairs Truck & Trailer Repair 15 lap feature until a lap 12 caution and restart when Chris Bonoffski made the winning pass.

After taking the lead Bonoffski lead the rest of the way ahead of Chuck Powelczyk, Sam Currie, Tim Boylhart and Clayton Koch who finished second through fifth.
