Tim Sears Jr. Uses Late Race Pass For Brewerton Speedway Modified Victory

BREWERTON, NY – Tim Sears Jr. from Hastings, NY related that the 2019 season wasn’t going up to his standards so far, but all that changed Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway in the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds.

In the 35-lap feature Sears would start 12th and steadily work his way forward, moving into second on lap 31 then setting his sights on Tyler Trump who led the race since lap 6. It would take Sears just one more lap to drive by Trump and go on to the win behind the wheel of his Mullen Industrial Handling/LJL Kevlar Racing Engines/No.83x/Bicknell.

Other winners on NAPA Auto Parts & Pro Edge Property Maintenance night were, Mike Prentice & Kevin Root (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman) Justin Williams (U.S Air Force Mod Lites) Chad Homan (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models) Evan Wright (Fleet Repair Truck & Trailer Repair 4-Cylinders.

In the 35-lap Modified feature Joe August would jump out front from his front row starting position leading the opening 5 laps until Tyler Trump powered into the top-spot.

On lap 10, Trump, in his small block powered car, was locked in a close battle with August, Andrew Ferguson and Tim Sears running the topside  of the speedway

With 15 laps showing on the scoring tower Trump was still showing the way out front with Ferguson, August, Sears and Billy Decker from 14th still in contention in the top-five.

By lap 20 Trump and Ferguson were slugging it out for the lead with Sears, Decker and August showing in third through fifth a few car lengths behind the top-two.

On lap 31 Tim Sears Jr. worked his way into second and set his sights on Tyler Trump with less than a handful of laps left. Sears would make a power move exiting turn-two launching down the back straightaway and would have the lead at the flag stand on lap 32.

Once out-front Sears would win by 0.911 of a second over the impressive run by Tyler Trump. Andrew Ferguson, Billy Decker and Matt Hulsizer would finish third through fifth.

With 38 Sportsman signed into the pits, two 25-lap features were run Friday night.

In the first feature Tim Devendorf would take advantage of his front row starting spot and would drive out to the early advantage.

With 5 laps in the books Devendorf would still hold the top spot by a few car lengths over Mike Prentice. Behind the top-two, Brent Joy, Tyler Corcoran and JJ Courcy were in a tight fight for third through fifth.

lap 10 would see Devendorf and Prentice in a two-car breakaway race for the lead with Joy, Dylan Zacharias and Corcoran showing on the scoring tower.

The entire race would change on lap 14 when leader Devendorf would tangle with a back-marker and spin out in turns three & four, ending his strong race up front.

When the green came back out Mike Prentice would hold off first Brent Joy and then Alan Fink for his first Brewerton Speedway win. Alan Fink, Jim Spano, Brent Joy and Tyler Corcoran finished second through fifth.

In the second 25 lap feature Jeff Prentice would jump out to the early lead and by lap 5 would be in a close battle with Mike Fowler and just a few lengths back, Dorian Wahdan, Zach Sobotka and Willy Decker Jr. raced in the top-five.

Prentice would open a little over a one second lead on lap 10. Behind Prentice, Sobotka and Fowler were locked in a close fight for second and third with Mark Yorker and Kevin Root, who started tenth, raced in the top-five.

With 10 laps to go Prentice still led, but his lead was shrinking with Root closing fast. One lap later Root, in a power move on the top-side of the speedway, drove by Prentice and wouldn’t be headed the rest of the way. Jeff Prentice, Zach Sobotka, Mark Yorker and Mike Fowler finished second through fifth.

The Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models made their first appearance of the season and didn’t disappoint.

In the 20-lap feature Kevan Cook and Dale Caswell put on a tight battle for the lead lap after lap while right behind the top two, Chad Homan, Kyle Sopaz and Chris Fleming slugged it out for top-five spots.

At the halfway point Cook still led with Caswell all over his rear deck-lid. On lap 11 Caswell had to go where Cook wasn’t so he went to the topside of the speedway and drove around Cook and into the lead.

Over the closing laps the fastest car on the speedway was Chad Homan as he caught Caswell and would take the lead on the final lap and winning by 0.239 of a second at the checkers. Dale Caswell, Kevan Cook, Chris Fleming and Kyle Sopaz finished second through fifth.

In the 20-lap Mod Lite feature Tom Mackey would lead the opening 6 laps before defending track champion Justin Williams took over the top-spot.

At the halfway point Williams and Casey Sykes battled for the top-spot while Zack Babcock, Mike Mullen and Brian Meyers were in their own close race for third through fifth.

Over the entire second half of the race Williams and Sykes pulled away to settle it between themselves with Justin Williams taking the win by 0.695 of a second over Casey Sykes. Mike Mullen, Zack Babcock and Doug Williams brought home top-five finishes.

Chris Bonoffski led the opening 7 laps of the 15-lap Fleet Repair Truck & Trailer Repair 4-Cylinder feature when he suddenly slowed, ending his night.

After Bonoffski broke, Evan Wright would lead the rest of the way for his second win of the year holding off Chuck Powelczyk, , Quinn Wallis, Ray Bechler and Scott Mallette.
