Wight, Hebing, Fink and Sykes Take Brewerton Speedway Gold

BREWERTON, NY – June 30, 2017 – Mother Nature took a grand slam swing at the Brewerton Speedway Friday but didn’t get the victory. Heavy rains hit the speedway in the late afternoon putting parts of the race track under water. The track crew led by Harvey and Eric Fink refused to throw in the towel and the entire racing program ran on A-Verdi Storage Containers night.

On the speedway “Lightning and a “Cobra struck as Larry Wight (Modifieds) and Chuck Hebing (ESS Sprints) took big victories.  Alan Fink (Sportsman) and Jeff Sykes (Mod Lites) grabbed feature wins.

In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature Tim Kerr would lead the early going, opening a half a straightaway lead as the racing behind him was tight for top ten spots.

At the 10-lap point Kerr and Adam Roberts occupied the top two spots while Matt Hulsizer and Larry wight who started mid-pack were in a close battle in the top-five.

A yellow on lap 14 would spell the difference in the race. On the restart Wight went to the extreme outside of the speedway from fourth and drove into the lead.

Another yellow on lap 22 would erase the lead Wight built up. Under yellow top five running Kerr would suddenly slow and stop on the speedway ending his night.

One final caution period would come with 11 laps left giving the field one last shot at Wight.  Over the final laps nobody seriously challenged Wight the rest of the way as he grabbed his third win of the year at the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon. Matt Hulsizer, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker and Chad Phelps finished second through fifth.

Thirty Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints signed in the pits for night #3 of Donath Motor Worx CNY Speedweek.

Chuck Hebing took advantage of his front row redraw starting spot and would lead every lap of the 25 lap A-Main.

The only thing that would slow down Hebing was cautions and a couple red flags. Chasing Hebing across the line was Coleman Gulick, Paulie Colagiovanni, Jonathan Preston and Mark Smith.

Rocco Leone would take the lead at the drop of the green in the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature. He  would keep the lead through early race cautions and restarts, holding off the challengers behind him.

With 10 laps to go Alan Fink was all over the back bumper of Leone looking for a way by. Behind the top two Stephen Denton, Glenn Forward and Chris Cunningham were locked in their own fight for third through fifth.

The turning point of the race came on lap 18 when Leone bobbled exiting turn four that allowed Fink to drive by and into the lead. The rest of the way nobody seriously challenged Fink as he grabbed his third Brewerton win of 2017. Rocco Leone, Glenn Forward, Stephen Denton and  Chris Cunningham completed the top-five.

In the 20 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lite feature Jeff Sykes took advantage of his up-front starting spot, leading every lap for his second win of the year. Casey Sykes, Joe Isabell, Zack Babcock and Justin Williams finished second through fifth.

This coming Friday McDonald’s Restaurants presents a fast, family, affordable night of racing featuring the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Firehouse Subs Mod Lites and JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinders.

Adult grandstand admission is $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger FREE. Pit is $27 participant, $30 non-participant. Gates open at 5:30 with racing at 7:30.
