Rich Scagliotta Wins His First Ever Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Feature At The Brewerton Speedway on Universal Metal Works, Dig Safely New York Night

A couple seasons ago New Jerseys Rich Scagliotta said he started coming north to the Brewerton Speedway because he wanted to compete against the best Big Block Modified drivers in the business. Friday night all that hard work paid off as Scagliotta passed Chuck Bower with one lap to go to pick up his first ever Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified win. With Scagliotta’s victory he became the ninth different winner in nine feature events run this season.

Other winners on Universal Metal Works , Dig Safely New York night were, Tim Sears Jr. Sportsman, Kevan Cook Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Chuck Powelczyk Metalico Four-Cylinder Super Stocks and Joe Garafolo and Doug Williams won a pair of Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lite Features.

Chuck Bower out raced Ted Lamb and the rest of the star studded field to lead the opening lap of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature.

Bower would open up a full straightaway lead on the field running the top of the speedway before a quick yellow would fly on lap 9 erasing the lead Bower had built up.

With 15 laps showing on the scoring tower Bower was still cruising out front as Mike Bowman gave chase alone in 2nd, with Ryan Phelps, Rich Scagliotta and Pat O’Brien showing in the top-five.

By lap 22 Bower started catching back markers as Bowman tried to close in on the leader. Scagliotta, Phelps and O’Brien still fought in the top-five.

With 7 laps to go and victory in sight a yellow would fly for a spinning Matt Fink in turn-four setting up a shootout to the finish.

Over the remaining laps with Bower running the top and Scagliotta the extreme inside the two would run side by side lap after lap with neither gaining a big advantage. Entering turn-three Bower slipped up the speedway just enough to allow Scagliotta to be scored the new leader when starter Dave Farney waved the white flag. Scagliotta continued to hug the bottom to be the first under the checkers for the popular win.  Chuck Bower, Mike Bowman, Willy Decker and Stewart Friesen rounded out the top-five.

After a post race inspection Chuck Bower was DQ’d for a weight infraction moving everyone up a position in the official finish.

“Are you kidding me, this is unbelievable,” said an excited Rich Scagliotta after exiting his Adamsville Maintenance Inc, No.8 Troyer in front of a cheering crew and crowd. “He was so far gone (Chuck Bower) and I don’t like the top, I’m a bottom guy. I just kept working it and working it, I don’t know what happened up there,” Scagliotta talking about when Bower slipped up in three and four. “I just hit my marks and don’t lose my cool, and I looked up and he’s throwing the checker flag, I’m winning, wow.”

In the 20 lap Sportsman feature the racing was hot and heavy in the top-five till lap 11 when Tim Sears Jr. blasted into the lead using the high groove. Once in the lead Sears took off never being challenged the rest of the way for his 4th Brewerton Speedway win. Greg Kimball, Jim LaRock, Aaron Jacobs and Sam Reakes finished second through fifth.

Kevan Cook took the lead on lap 7 of the 20 lap Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified feature and looked to run away and hide. Over the second half of the race Cook had to fight off repeated challenges from Chris Fleming to pick up the hard fought, narrow win.  Rob Keller, Jerry Lobdell Jr. and Josh Van Tassell finished third through fifth.

The Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites ran a pair of features Friday night. In the May 27th feature from a rainout, Joe Garafolo picked up the win over Joe Isabell, Gary Jeffries, Mike Mullen and Jeff Isabell. In the regular scheduled main Doug Williams picked up his third victory of the year over Joe Isabell, Mike Mullen, Tim Devendorf and Jeff Isabell.

The win streak is finally over in the Metalico Four-Cylinder Super Stocks for Stephen Denton after eight straight wins. Chuck Powelczyk grabbed the lead early on and wasn’t to be denied in the 15 lap feature. Jim Money, Stephen Denton, Lorraine Powelczyk and Roland Fiske chased the winner across the line.
