“Open Sportsman” and ct525’s to race together with sail panels at Fulton Speedway in 2011

The future of the ct525 class at Fulton Speedway is a strong one. It is anticipated to be a prelier class at the high-banked speed-plant in 2012 and the engine option has become a popular choice in several dirt Late Model series’ around the country. In 2011, track owner John Wight will allow area open sportsman cars to compete in the ct525 class. A move that will create a bigger field, but also help to stimulate the natural progression Wight is looking for.

“This ct525 class is designed for the crate or open sportsman driver that wants a place to go faster, at a similar budget to what they are running today,” said Wight, “There are competitors out there that have open cast-iron sportsman engines that either want or will be forced to find that progression. The ct525 is it. We may as well give them the chance to go head to head with what we want them to go to.”

The rules for open sportsman competing with the ct525’s will virtually mirror those of other New York open sportsman tracks. Following standard dirt style modified chassis rules, open sportsman cars may use either Bow Tie or DART Iron Eagle 180 cylinder heads. Open sportsman and ct525 powered cars will have the same weight limit at 2350 lbs after a race. Tires will be the same American Racer tires mandated in the Fulton Speedway Big Block and Sportsman Classes in 2011:

LF – SD38                             RF – SD33 or SD38

LR – SD33 or SD38             RR – SD44 or SD48

Both open sportsman and ct525s will be afforded two very interesting options. First, both engine combinations will have no carburetor limit. Second, sail panels are permitted for use with both engine combinations. Sail panels are limited to 65” maximum height from ground. From the rear axle centerline they may not extend further than 48” back and 12” forward. Maximum vertical lips are 2” up from door and 2” down from door. A 1.5” tolerance is permitted on width. The degree of angle from vertical lips (upper and lower) to rear plane of the driver’s seat is 22 degrees. Sail panel dimensions must be equal on each side of the car.

Fulton Speedway roars to life on Saturday Night May 7th at 7pm when Thunder Island and the Oasis present an exciting card featuring the debut of the ct525/Open Sportsman Sail Panel Class.
